The round Pura basket is made entirely by hand from banana fibre. The attached white cotton cords are artfully woven in the traditional "Kawung" pattern and are a real eye-catcher. Especially in combination with a basket with black strings, such as our model Praya, the result is a fascinating contrast.

Main material: Banana fibre
Our baskets are made from plant fibres. They therefore wonderfully smell and feel like nature.
Banana fibres are the fibres of the layered trunks of agriculturally used banana trees. The intense brown color occurs naturally when the fibres are dried under the sun for about a week. Then the individual strips are rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands. Only old, dying banana trees are used for this material. This enables these crops to have a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handcrafted baskets here at Soeji.
